The B-52's are known as one of the top party bands of all time. Their memorable
dance-rock anthems are sure to start the party and keep it going all through the
night. The band was formed in 1976 in Athens, GA. Soon after the band was formed,
they began weekend road trips to New York City for performances at CBGB's. Before
long they landed a record deal, and their self-titled debut album sold more than
500,000 copies due to the popularity of their first singles, "Rock Lobster,"
and "52 Girls." The group tapped into a growing enterprise that was
much larger than anyone anticipated. At the time of their greatest achievements,
the group suffered an immense tragedy, the death of guitarist Ricky Wilson resulting
from AIDS. After his untimely death, the band continued writing. They re-emerged
with an album titled Cosmic Thing (1989). The album demonstrated to be the greatest
achievement for the group, and its success pushed them to become international
superstars. The B-52's have been in the music industry for thirty years and has
sold over twenty million albums. As they continue to take the party-music revolution
into the 21st century, they show no sign of deceleration. They continue to serve
up a unique integration of music and showmanship to all of their fans around the
world.
