Britney Spears was born December 2, 1981 in Kentwood, Lousianna. Spears’
music career started at age eight when she was hired for the role of the understudy
for the lead role of Tina Denmark in the Off-Broadway musical Ruthless!. In December
1992, she was cast in The Mickey Mouse Club, but returned to Kentwood shortly
after the show was cancelled. Britney Spears was later signed to Jive Records in 1997
and started to record Baby One More Time in 1998. Her first concert tour followed
shortly after as the opening act for ‘N Sync. Baby One More Time debuted
at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and went double platinum. The album topped
the charts at number fifteen worldwide, and became the largest selling album in
the industry by a teenage artist. Since her start in the music industry, Britney Spears
has released six more studio albums and has won 305 awards for her work in music
and movies. Britney Spears embarked on a world tour titled, The Circus Starring Britney Spears in March 2009. With a gross of U.S. $131.8 million, the tour became the
fifth highest grossing tour of the year. Her 2011 album, Femme Fatal was her sixth
album to debut at number one on the charts, which made her the first female to
have six number one album debuts. Spears is one of the most well known musicians
of the decade, has been crowned America’s “pop princess,” and
her music has been compared to Madonna.
